It all started when she broke her leg. A bicycle accident of all things. It was a Sunday afternoon when it started drizzling. She lost control of the bike. Of course, I took her to the hospital right away. It was a spiral bone fracture in her tibia. The doctor prescribed painkillers, Oxycodone, I think it was. Days became weeks, became months, became years, and she was still taking the painkillers. She hid it from everyone. How was I supposed to know? She had such a good life. Why would I suspect that she was an addict?
